The Skeletal Systyem
The Skeleton is a strong, flexible framework that supports the body and protects the infornal or glands. The skelton consist of 206 bones. Their are 60 bones in the hands and arms alone. Their are two main parts of the skeleton. The AXIAL Made up of the bonesw of the head, neck, and trunk. APPENDICULAR Made up of the bones of the arms and legs. Contains smaller amounts of the elements Mostium, Potasium, and Sodium.(World Book Pg. )
CARTILAGE Is a strong flexible connective tissue. This is another component of your skeleton system.
OSSIFICATION is the proccess by which bone is formed, renewed and repaired.
LIGAMENT is a band of fibrous, slightly elastic, connective tissue that attaches bone to bone
TENDON is a fibrous cord that attaches muscle to the bone.
Joints- Points at which bones meet.
JOINTS
BALL AND SOCKET JOINTS are formed when the rounded head of one bone fits into the rounded cavity of an adjoining bone, as in the hip or shoulder joint.
HINGE JOINTS founded at the elbow knee and ankle and fingers allow a joint to bend and straighten promoting rotation
PIVOT JOINTS allow limited rotation or turning of the head
ELLIPSODIAL JOINTS such as the one in your wrist, have an oval shaped part that fits into a curved space.
Caring for your skeletal system is an important thing to do, eating food that contains calcium vitamin D and phophurous help prevent the devolpment of certain skeletal disorder.
FRACTURES
A fracture is any type of break in a bone. A hairline fracture is incomplete and the two parts of the bone do not seperate. A transverse fracture is completely across the bone. Comminuted fracture is when the bone shatters into more than one peice.
Is a conditionin which progressive loss of bone tissue occurs
